The Truth About Stay-At-Home-Moms

As a stay-at-home-mom I do love spending my endless hours of free time painting my nails, going shopping, watching movies...don't you?

I know I'm not the only one that's fallen victim to the phrase..."Well, Barb has nothing else to do. She can do that too" or "What do you do all day?!" or "I bet you just love all your free time".

Don't worry, the used-to-be-defensive-regarding-this-subject-Barb is gone. I really don't care what people think. And until you are a stay-at-home-mom then you just don't know. And that's okay.

Quick side note: this isn't a jab at the working mom's out there. Seriously. I don't know how you do it. This is mostly something for pre-mommy's, men, and in-laws... If you want to try to understand - or if you are a SAHM and want a good laugh...read this. Love it.

  1. two things i thought immediately - person writing the letter must not realize that having kids makes things take longer... obviously. they don't just eat once in the morning and then are content to sit by themselves all day.

two, what if your kids are older and require more "learning" in their days? that takes a lot of time and preparation! it's not the same as smaller children who can be put down for a nap, or "locked" in a playpen for a minute or two. those kids still take time, but... yeah.

  2. Okay, that is hilarious! I would have loved to see that person's reaction when they got that response!

  3. I love this!

Some times i think "what do i do all day?"! but this article covers it. I am at the beck and call of a 2 year old! and the article is so true, so true about the time it takes to do things. i use to take 20 minutes to get ready to go anywhere and not it takes me close to an hour and that is if there aren't any snafus, like addison undressing herself and hiding her diaper, or a spill or pigtails being ripped out.

and if i get a minute of quiet, i am either doing something i can't do when addison is awake (running, cleaning toilets, vacuuming) or sitting and enjoying the quiet time, a good book, or a warm meal.

it is so true though, until you are a SAHM you will never ever possibly know what it is like. I

I still have to work 12 hours/2 days a week, and those days i spend at work require way less energy than the days i stay home.

I sure would like to smack Tacoma, WA upside the head! :)
