So I've never been induced before. I'm not really nervous or scared - just anxious. Super excited to see this little guy's cute little face!
Have you had to be induced? Was your experience positive or negative? Go ahead - lay it on me. I won't read your comments until after baby comes - so don't be worried about scaring me. =) I'm probably at the hospital right now anyway.
Next week sometime I'll post my experience with induction - all the gory details you probably don't care to know. =)
There are many reasons to be induced...
- Post-term (42+ weeks)
- High blood pressure
- Health problems
- Infection in the uterus
- Placenta abruption
So how does one get induced?
- Ripening or dilating the cervix through medications or devices (does the idea of *devices* scare anyone else?! Sounds horrible!)
- Stripping the Membranes
- Rupturing the Amniotic Sac
- Oxytocin to cause contractions
Stripping the membranes - had that done Monday morning. And no, it wasn't painful at all! I didn't even know he'd done it, I thought he forgot and I had to ask. The only time it is painful is when your cervix isn't dilated. It did cause some contractions - but didn't jump start labor as hoped...bummer.
So, I'm guessing my water will have to be broken and they'll give me drugs to start contractions. I'll let you know how it goes. And of course - I'll post pictures of the Little Man when he gets here! Can't wait!
{Natural ways to induce...yep, I've gotten so impatient - I've just about tried them all! I figured it couldn't hurt. Pineapple, spicy foods, pressure points, among others *wink-wink, nudge-nudge*...yep. None of them worked. At least not for me}
Good luck with your induction! I was induced a little over a year ago with my first. at 40 weeks and 3 days. I wasn't dilated at all, so they started cervadil the night before and by 3 or 4 in the morning, contractions had started. My Dr ruptured membranes around 9am and started Pitocin. Labor was pretty heavy 11-1 and I started pushing at 1:20. My little man was born at 3:02. I felt like it all went so fast. I know not all inductions go as smoothly as mine did, but I wouldn't have done it any other way. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI was induced with both of mine at 39 weeks! Mine were both more elective and because my babies are big. I also just like having it planned as well. I was able to let my family know the exact date and time. It was also easier with my first and dealing with work. As for the actual inductions super easy! I was already highly favorable with both. I was able to check in get hooked up they broke my water turned the pitosin on and a few hours later we had a baby! With my second I ended up needing antibiotics so it was nice to get those in plenty of time for baby to come. Labor with my first was 6 hours and second was 3 hours! They let me get the epidural whenever I wanted as well. I plan on getting induced with this baby that puts delivery around may 10!
ReplyDeleteI was induced with Ryan and loved it! I was 40 weeks and 1 day. I was about the same dilation as you are and was in labor for 16 hours. Of course, this is your second baby which means it won't be that long! :) I got my epidural at the same time as the pitocin and loved it! I hope everything goes well with your labor! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI was induced and it wasn't that bad. I was mostly just nervous since I was only at 36 weeks so I was worried about Lucas being healthy. And I felt like a huge wimp because I went from having no contractions to regular contractions in just a few minutes and I was like "Ok it hurts gimme something." Plus I had to stay in bed because of the blood pressure medication I was on. But other than that it was fine. I had the drugs to keep me comfortable. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great birthday! I hope your induction went well. I was induced with both of my two. The first because she was way overdue and the second because of size (BIG!). Because I've been induced both times I don't have a problem with it and had good experiences both times. I hope all is well with you and baby. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI was induced 2 weeks early all 4 times because my babies are huge, thanks to my hulk of a husband. (my last one was 11 lbs. and 23.5 in. long...2 weeks early)
ReplyDeleteThough "induction" can be many things, and it's all within your control. By number 4, I had it figured out. I like for them to just break my water and put in an epidural, because that's all it takes for me. But, everyone is different. Hope it went well!
